A slicer is a user interface element in Lumenore that allows users to chart-level filtering of data interactively. Slicers typically appear as a list of options or buttons, enabling users to select specific values or categories to filter the data displayed in visuals or charts. These provide a user-friendly way to refine data by allowing users to choose from a list of options using dropdown menus, checkboxes, or titles. Slicers in data analysis enhance the user experience by providing easy access to filtering options and slicer cascading. It enables users to analyze and visualize relevant data subsets quickly.

Steps to use slicer:

Step 1: Choose the attribute you wish to use as a slicer or apply it as a chart-level filter.

Step 2: Select the filter type as “Slicer.”

Step 3: Click on “Customization” to select the type of slicer you wish to apply to your attribute.

Step 4: Four types of slicer options are available:

  • Checklist: Allows users to select multiple categories using checkboxes. It’s ideal when users need to choose multiple options, such as different categories or filters in the dashboard.
  • Dropdown: Allows users to select a single category or option from a list.
  • Titles: Allows users to represent options visually. It provides a more graphical way of selection.
  • Enable select all options: This checkbox enables a “Select All” option at the top of the slicer, allowing users to quickly choose all possibilities at once, without needing to check each box.

Once you’ve made your selection, click on “Apply.”

Step 5: Proceed by clicking “Design Dashboard” to navigate the dashboard designer page. Add a new card and select the slicer you previously designed on the chart designer page from the list.

Step 6: Click on the filter scope button of the chart where you wish to apply this slicer.

Step 7Enable the slicer selection option. If you have multiple slicers, click on “Customize.”

Step 8: Choose the slicer to be applied to the selected chart and click “Apply.”

Likewise, add slicer selection to other charts as needed.

Step 10: You can also set up slicer cascading, similar to filter cascading. Click on the three dots at the top right corner of the slicer and select “Add/edit slicer cascading.”

Step 11: Configure the slicer cascading based on your needs and click “Ok.”
